- Abstract
This article discusses the use of jidabokuippo (JDI), a herbal blend commonly used in Japan, for pain relief in a case of bear-related trauma. The patient, a 69-year-old woman, sustained head and extremity injuries after being attacked by an Asian black bear. Initially, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics (NSAIDs) alone provided insufficient pain relief, but when combined with JDI, the patient experienced a marked reduction in pain and regained the ability to walk. JDI is believed to have multiple pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antiedematous, antithrombotic, sedative, and spasmolytic actions. Further research is needed to determine the effectiveness of JDI as a standalone treatment and its potential synergistic effects with NSAIDs.
