- Abstract
The study aimed to evaluate current problems of teaching science in the Elementary Stage in SharurahGovernate from the perspectives of teachers of science. The researcher used descriptive survey approach where the sample consisted of all the teachers of science in Sharurah populated for 29. To achieve the goal of the study، the researcher designed a questionnaire، assured its validity and stability and applied it. The following results were shown: - High teaching load of the teacher scored 3.59 with a mean of 89.75%. - Lack of encouragement to the teacher scored 3.38 with a mean of 84.5%. - The teacher doesn’t improve his professional skill with a mean of 3.38; that’s 84.5%. - Teachers are not staying long in the region scored 3.31 with a mean of 82.75. - Students with low skills in reading and writing scored 3.59 with a mean of 89.75%. - Large number of students in classes scored a mean of 3.48 with a mean of 87%. - Families are not taking care of their children’s education with a mean of 3.45 which means 86.25%. - Large scientific content compared to allotted time with a mean of 3.31 with a percentage of 82.75. - Having some difficult scientific term scored 3.28 with a mean of 82%. - Used teaching methods do not improve practical skills of students with a mean of 3.24 which equals 81%. - Lack of maintenance for available teaching aids scored 3.52 with a mean of 88%. - Lack of clarity for the families’ role in the evaluation process scored 3.48 with a percentage of 87%. - The process of ongoing evaluation is not clear for the teachers. This scored a mean of 3.45 with a percentage of 86.25 - The total evaluation of the problems facing teaching science scored 3.09 out of 4 with a percentage of 77.3%. - In the light of these results، the researcher recommended the following: - Having more attention to the professional growth of the teachers of science. - Giving more stimulation to the teachers to join programs which develop their performance. - Having more academic departments in the faculty of sciences and arts in Sharurah to qualify teachers of science. - Giving extra lessons to students low-skilled in reading and writing to improve their skills. - Revising the process of ongoing evaluation.
