- Title
The Inequity of the Global Threat to Coral Reefs.
- Authors
Donner, Simon D.; Potere, David
- Abstract
The article presents the author's views on the inequity involved in the global threat to coral reefs. The author described studies on the poverty level of people from developing countries who are dependent on coral reefs. He stated findings that the majority of people dependent on coral reef ecosystems for shoreline protection, fisheries and tourism revenue are responsible for only a small fraction of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. The author pointed out how the studies demonstrate that there is a clear inequity between the nations most responsible for greenhouse gas emissions and the communities that would suffer the most from any long-term coral reef degradation.
