- Abstract
Research results are given to assess the impact of two management types of the herbaceous extract such as pasture (traditional and improved with overseeding) in the natural regeneration of the arboreal component in MOF remnants in the north of Santa Catarina, Brazil, so that the regeneration of the mixed ombrophilous forest (MOF) could be better understood. The extraction of mate and milk-production livestock, regionally called caíva, occurs. Regardless of the management, natural regeneration of MOF's typical arboreal species is an active process which is present in all evaluated caívas. There was significant difference in diversity and total density in regeneration components, significantly in overseeding caívas. High occurrence of regrowth and the reduced presence of damaged clues in pasture suggest frequent cuttings, rather than animal trampling and pasturing, are processes linked to caivas management with significant negative impact on regeneration. Although the caívas under analysis have shown satisfactory regeneration levels, measures should be adopted to lessen the negative pressures on the system.
