- Title
Report of the Committee on Classification.
- Abstract
An innovation this year has been the establishment of an ad hoc subcommittee in Washington to assist the staff of the Executive Office of the American Sociological Association in handling routine requests for membership classification or reclassification. Members of the subcommittee are Jessie Bernard, Denis F. Johnston and Austin Van der Slice. A special form has also been developed to provide the information necessary for a decision. These developments have apparently been wholly successful, since no requests for decisions have been referred by the Executive Office to the Committee over the past year. During 1964, 313 persons who became active members in 1958 became eligible for reclassification as fellows. Of these, 282 automatically became fellows and an additional 22 did so after it was determined that they met the requirement of a major commitment to sociology. Active members increased by 191. The Committee calls to the attention of the Council its recommendation of the previous year on which action has not been taken.
