- Abstract
This document is a summary of a special issue on hydrogeology, which is the study of groundwater and its interactions with the environment. It discusses various sub-disciplines within hydrogeology and their importance in addressing environmental issues such as water scarcity and pollution. The article also highlights eight significant research directions in modern hydrogeology, including groundwater formation, pollution, and remediation, as well as the management of groundwater resources. The document concludes by summarizing three review papers that cover topics such as water contamination, the use of carbon isotopes in studying the hydrological cycle, and the behavior of trace metals in coastal aquifers. It emphasizes the need for continued research, international collaboration, and action in the field of hydrogeology.
