The Politics of Artificial Intelligence: Rhetoric vs Reality.
- Authors
Cobbe, Jennifer
- Abstract
The article discusses the current state of artificial intelligence (AI) and the focus on speculative risks and long-term threats rather than addressing the real harms caused by AI today. It highlights the UK government's unwillingness to regulate AI and its emphasis on voluntary guidance instead of substantive regulation. The article also mentions the EU's efforts to regulate AI through the AI Act, which aims to safeguard fundamental rights and curb risky uses of AI. It further discusses the concentration of AI power among major cloud companies and the potential negative consequences of this concentration. Overall, the article argues for the need to address the existing harms of AI and regulate its development to ensure it benefits society.
