- Abstract
This article discusses the history and impact of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) over the past 40 years. TDR was established in 1974 to promote and conduct research on neglected tropical diseases and provide access to knowledge and tools for vulnerable populations. The article highlights the evolution of TDR's research focus, its governance model, and its contributions to disease control and elimination. It also discusses TDR's current strategies for research and capacity building, emphasizing the importance of partnerships and long-term commitment. Overall, TDR has played a significant role in advancing research and improving public health in low- and middle-income countries.
