- Authors
Bombardieri, Luca; Jasink, Anna Margherita
- Abstract
The article presents the authors' insights on the origin of the formation of the Bronze Age Cypriote writing system known as Cypro-Minoan. The authors mention that both the local and external influences may be recognize as basic contribution to the formation process of the Cypro-Minoan writing system. They say that a mixed complex of different elements which can be considered as adoptions from Cretan scripts or reinterpretations of Cypriote linear decorative motifs are revealed in the written signs attested in the several documents including the clay weight and archaic tablet from Enkomi Site, Cyprus. They add that a connection between the Cypro-Minoan and the Cretan scripts can be recognized with a minor resemblance in the cuneiform writing which is offered only by the later.
