- Abstract
The article discusses the neo-Pauline universalism of philosophers Slavoj Žižek and Alain Badiou to the messianic event. It challenges the philosophers with a messianic notion that is not set in opposition to the Jewish Law. It also explores their assessments of Saint Paul as the father of a universal gospel of redemption and justice. For them, the apostle's said turning in opposition to the Law not only shows the matrix for every emancipatory politics, but offers an urge to wrestle free from identity politics and localist pragmatism. It also explores the notion of the messianic that was elaborated by philosopher Moses Maimonides in the 12th century and was further developed by philosopher Emmanuel Levinas in the 20th century.
