- Abstract
Overview baseball arrived in Mexico at the end of the 19th century and in 20th there was already a professional league that immediately became the second most popular sport in the country, only behind soccer. It reached its summit, in a constant crescendo. toward the 1940s and early 1950s and maintained an acceptable quality for the next four decades, until, also in a permanent crescendo, the poor working conditions of baseball players, the violation of their labour rights and association by the owners of teams and the mexican league, originated in 1980, the National Association of Baseball Players - ANABE - was formed and began this a reclamation movement whereby they would get positive balances in their demands for economic improvement and in the consciousness of themselves as citizens with rights of a guild which held the first and only professional athletes triumphant strike in mexican history. The former became central and pivotal topics of this chronicle, where is made a tour in two times that intertwines the start of the strike in 1980 with the beginning of the 19th century sport and its post-war summit.
