- Abstract
The Magdeburg Declaration of mutual recognition of baptism from 2007 is an ecumenical milestone in Germany. This is one of the reasons why the question arises at regular intervals for non-signatory churches as to whether and under what conditions Magdeburg could be signed retrospectively. For churches with an Anabaptist practice, the example of the Federation of Free Evangelical Churches (Bund Freier Evangelischer Gemeinden) in Germany is used here to argue in favour of recognising the (infant) baptism of other churches on the basis of the rediscovery of God's action in baptism and the aporias in the previous understanding of baptism. Perhaps this will also inspire other Anabaptist churches to reconsider the Magdeburg Baptism Declaration.
