- Abstract
This article discusses the relationship between the United States and Italy regarding the agrarian reforms conducted by the Italian government beginning in 1950. It examines the effects of the Marshall Plan, a program developed to reconstruct Europe after World War II, on the reforms, including land reclamation projects. The authors analyze the social structure in Italy at the time, especially the struggles of the peasant class in Calabria, Italy as a result of the agrarian reforms. The role of Italian politician Alcide de Gasperi and the founding of the Christian Democratic Party in the development of government policy related to land reform is also explored.
