- Abstract
The article focuses on the uniqueness regarding the protection of expressions of folklore within the context of culture in Africa. It informs that expressions of folklore are the manifestations on the interaction of community members that represent and constitute their identity. It notes that distinct human rights regime of Africans was built around the African Chapter on Human and Peoples' Rights that recognizes the right of communities to their cultural development, including the protection of intellectual capital. The absence of the commonly understood notion of indigenous peoples in the country, particularly in liberal African states, that contributes on its uniqueness is also discussed.
