Carolyn Vellenga Berman, Dickens and Democracy in the Age of Paper: Representing the People (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2022), pp. ix + 353, $115/ £90 cloth. Following an analysis of Dickens's strategic imitation of the parliamentary blue books in I Hard Times i (1854), Vellenga Berman turns to I Little Dorrit i (1855-57) and I Our Mutual Friend i (1864-65) in her final two chapters, with each interpreting one text in light of the other.
