- Abstract
This article discusses the role of undergraduate research in the development of cognitive and work-related skills for racially minoritized students. The study used the inputs-environments-outcomes (I-E-O) college impact model to examine the relationship between undergraduate research participation and perceived gains in skills. The findings showed that undergraduate research positively influenced students' cognitive and work-related skills for all racial groups. The quality of student-faculty interactions was also found to mediate these relationships. The study suggests that campuses should provide opportunities for racially minoritized students to engage in undergraduate research and work with faculty to ensure quality interactions. However, the article acknowledges the limitations of the study and the need for further research on the role of race and racism in students' experiences.
