- Abstract
This paper attempts to retrieve the history of the Militia known as Blandengues de la Frontera of Buenos Aires in the frame of the military reforms undertaken by the Bourbons in America. This particular experience of militarization was characterized by the conversion of old local militia companies into a regular formation inside the King's Armies. The article describes the militia period of the Blandengues and analyzes the reasons of that conversion in the Rio de la Plata' Viceroyalty beginnings. Then, the scope, limits and ambivalences of this reform are developed, explaining the military failure of the British invasion of 1806.
