Complementary and alternative medicine in inflammatory bowel disease.
- Authors
Taylor, Nicola S.; Taylor, Kirstin M.
- Abstract
Complementary and alternative medicines are used by a significant proportion of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, often without the knowledge of their health-care team. In this review, Nicola Taylor and Kirstin Taylor provide an overview of the various therapies used, along with evidence supporting their use, where it is available. Although most of these therapies are safe, it is important to be aware that some may cause side-effects or interactions with other drugs. To date, there is no good evidence that any of these therapies can be used effectively in the place of conventional treatment in inflammatory bowel disease.
