- Abstract
The article offers the author's insights on the evolution of "wild man" which is considered part of the folklore in the European literature. The author mentions that the Europeans took their beliefs on mythical beings like "wild man" when they entered New York State. The author states that the "wild man" image evolved into a less human type but more malevolent in form. The author highlights the man-like monster sightings in New York from the nineteenth century up to the present-day, in which it serves as a guided on how "wild man" transformed over time. It discusses the features of the "wild man" which could have appeared in various places the story regarding the sightings that was published in various periodicals including Free Press, Albany Times-Union, and New York Daily Herald.
