- Abstract
This investigation was carried out in a productive field of a state-run Various Crop enterprise in the municipality of Imias, Guantánamo province. The area is considered as Cuban semi-desert (southern coastal fringe) in sandy-loamy soil with high salinity. The research took place from December 2003 to May 2004, with the objective to determine the most effective application of generic brasinosteroid, known commercially as Biobras-16, for increasing yields of pepper plants (Capsicum annum L.) var. Verano 1. The bioactive product was applied to seeds for two hours at various concentrations, with a second application 25 days after germination before transplanting the pepper. The product was applied in the morning hours, with the following treatments and dosages: T1- 0.02 mL/L, T2-0.06 mL/L, T3-0.2 mL/L and a control. The data taken from the plants were: stem diameter, plant height, number of leaves, number of flowers, number of fruits per plant, weight of fruits and yield (metric tons/ha). Results showed that the bioactive agent was effective in all treatments and the concentration of 0.02 mL/L was the most effective, demonstrating significant difference from the other treatments.
