- Abstract
An essay is presented about the various encounters of the Indigenous peoples of the western Americas with the work of playwright William Shakespeare. Topics covered include the role of theatre and performance in the story of the Red Atlantic and Shakespeare's involvement in this story. The representation of Indigenes in Shakespeare's plays including "The Tempest," "Henry VIII" and "Macbeth" is examined. Other topics covered include cultural imperialism and English culture.
