- Abstract
The Guevara Palace in Segura, built by the lieutenant of the high steward of Queen Isabella the Catholic, represents the only example of Castilian palace architecture from the 15th century built in Gipuzkoa. Yet despite this relevant particularity and its designation as a national historic and artistic monument, its architectural characterisation, profoundly transformed over five centuries, has not been deeply explored to date. This research proposes an approach to the original plan through graphic reconstruction that explains the building's successive transformations, identifying them by chronological phases. To understand the singular circumstance of its construction, the special relationship between the person for whom it was built and the context of Castilian palace architecture at the time was analysed. An extensive search for descriptive graphic and notarial documentary references was also undertaken, the aim being to profile its architectural and symbolic identity.
