- Authors
Dewender, Thomas
- Abstract
The article discusses the concept of the infinite in the cosmology and philosophy of physics developed by Dutch medieval philosopher Nicholas of Amsterdam in the early 15th century. The author presents a detailed analysis of two of Nicholas' main scholarly works, "Quaestiones Physicorum" and "Quaestiones De Caelo et Mundo," both commentaries on the writings on physics by ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle. Topics addressed include links between medieval mathematics and religion and comparisons of Nicholas' thought with that of other medieval philosophers such as Nicole Oresme, Albert of Saxony, and John Buridan. Transcriptions of Nicholas' writings are also presented in three appendices.
