Title
Rare greenhouse gas adds to climate concerns.
Abstract
The article reports on the increase in the atmospheric concentration of nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), a rare but potent greenhouse gas. An analysis of air samples from California and Tasmania, Australia, revealed that NF3, commonly used in etching microcircuits and other flat-panel displays, has increased in atmospheric concentrations in 2008, reaching 5,400 tons. Scientists are therefore recommending that NF3 be included in future climate agreements.
