- Abstract
The article presents the discussion by John Wilbanks on the idea of electronic-commerce for biological research materials. He explains that these biological research materials, whether plasmids, cell lines, mice or fish, are collected by the owning laboratory for more publications. He then calculates the benefits to scientists' ability to build on published research, if a system where one could search the web and get a cell line via fedex in four days exists. Information may allegedly then be gained through the use of existing search engines.
