- Title
Congress tightens rules on fuel standards for cars.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the legislation introduced by the Democrats in the U.S. Congress in order to increase the fuel efficiency standards for motor vehicles. It was already passed last December 13, 2007. As stipulated in the proposed bill, the fuel efficiency standards would increase by 40 percent to 15 kilometers per liter by 2020, along with a new series of energy-efficiency requirements for appliances and federal buildings. Other than these, the bill would also mandate the use of 136 billion liters of biofuels annually by 2022, wherein 80 billion liters will come from advanced biofuels such as cellulosic ethanol.
