- Abstract
This article focuses on happenings related to the field of education in the U.S. The Commission on Doctoral Education, a high-level group appointed in January 1972 by the New York Board of Regents to study doctoral education in the state, has recommended to enact special committees to review the quality of and need for doctoral programs in New York State Universities. Only those programs meeting selected criteria should receive state support. The need for such a study was evidenced by the financial problems confronting higher education in the state as well as by the prospect of a surplus of doctorates in certain fields. Further, according to a report recently published by National Educational Radio, the radio division of the National Association of Educational Broadcasters, radio broadcasting and associated technologies are seriously under-utilized in American education, despite their wide and effective use by educators elsewhere in the world. The report defined instructional radio and associated audio technologies for the benefit of students working toward specific learning objectives.
