- Abstract
The book “Project Wolf”, by Lars Berge, was inspired by a tragedy that took place in 2012, in the Swedish zoological garden. The close contact with wolves was offered there. It was designed as a commercial service for visitors promoting the zoo as an attractive place to spend time. Within the project, visitors were able to enter the wolves’ run, where they could touch the animals with the help of their caretakers. Project was initially successful but eventually the tragedy happened. Wolves killed their direct female caretaker. Described situation raises a lot of ethical questions. The book addresses important issues of human-non-human relationships and sets them in wide humanistic context of well-known concepts by Jean Baudrillard or Michel Foucault. The idea of captivity takes various forms - also that of maintaining wild animals in private homes as pets: recent case of puma concolor kept by private owner in Poland raised the question of ethical treatment of wild animals and alarmed public opinion and experts
