- Abstract
The article "A Church that Lives from Baptism?" examines the significance of baptism as the foundation of understanding the church. It is noted that the formulations of the renunciation of baptism in the current ritual do not correspond to the understanding of the Second Vatican Council. The 45th symposium of the Liturgical Commission for Austria aims to raise awareness of the importance of baptism and develop visions for a church that finds its vitality more strongly in baptism. The article examines the connection between the church and baptism in five points and emphasizes the importance of baptism as a hermeneutical key to understanding the church. It also discusses baptism in different epochs and shows that baptism represents a transition from secular society to a contrasting society.
