- Title
Putting autism research in social contexts.
- Authors
Bottema-Beutel, Kristen
- Abstract
The author encourages autism researchers to make efforts to more fully consider the contextual landscape of autism research across a broader range of disciplines. She discusses the multiple layers of context that constitute social encounters, the micro- to macro-level dimensions of context that reciprocally influence one another in dynamic ways, and how conceptualizations of autism as a context-free, intra-individual manifestation of impairments can impact autistic people's lives.
