- Abstract
The present study aims to analyze evidence in the literature about the effectiveness of the vaccine against covid-19. This is an integrative review of the descriptive literature. For the preparation of this study, searches were performed using documents in electronic format present in the Virtual Health Library and in the International Literature on Health Sciences (Medline) via PubMed. Being considered 08 relevant articles for analysis, through the inclusion criteria. Given the high mortality and rapid spread resulting from the impacts caused by acute respiratory infection, SARS-CoV-2, vaccines represent the most efficient means to control the COVID-19 pandemic. Although studies show that efficacy, or the reduction of infection rates outside the scope of clinical trials, generally decreases from the initial rate. Studies conducted in the United States in 2021 show vaccine efficacy among hospitalized adults aged ≥65 years who had reduced risk of hospitalization and deaths associated with COVID-19 after receiving doses of the vaccine. That said, studies show the effectiveness of the vaccine as a reduction in complications resulting from covid-19, such as risk of death and hospitalization; although there are no studies that point to long-term immunization, requiring possible booster doses.
