- Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze the socio-demographic and clinic-epidemiological variables of patients who were treated by the Tuberculosis Control Program in Ipatinga-MG from 2005 to 2012. The goal is to increase the comprehension about the disease and its control in the city. An epidemiological cross-sectional study was carried out among the treated cases in the Parasitic-Infectious Disease Control Center and they were notified to SINAN. 647 (73.8%) out from the 877 patients lived in Ipatinga were analysed. 572 were male, at the average age of 40. 376 of them (51.6%) were either illiterate or have not concluded high school. New cases represented 85.9% of the sample. The most prevalent form was the pulmonary one. The average cure rate during the study was 63.8% and 7% have abandoned the Program. The HIV/TB co-infection rate was 8.8%. The results have confirmed SINAN-TB as an essential tool for health professionals for data storage. It proves to be important to evaluate the service and to develop new strategies, as well as to note the errors and successful results. It is also important to improve the understanding about the patients' profile and the dimension and complexity of diagnoses and treatment of tuberculosis.
