- Abstract
To prevent reflective cracks in asphalt pavement, geosynthetics are usually used in road engineering. In this paper, the anti-cracking properties of geosynthetics under dynamic load, high temperature and compaction were studied through indoor simulation tests. The mechanical and microscopic characteristics of geosynthetics before and after the simulation tests were analyzed. The results show that the tensile strength of different geosynthetics decreases after reflective cracking test(RCT), and geosynthetics with good tensile properties may not promote the crack resistance of asphalt pavement. Based on the crack propagation analysis, the crack resistance of geosynthetics is divided into three grades. Geosynthetics with similar physical properties do not necessarily have the same crack resistance. The crack resistance of asphalt pavement mainly depends on the ability of geosynthetics to resist high temperature during paving and shear deformation during compaction. The resistance to deterioration of geosynthetics is the key factor to determine their crack resistance.
