- Abstract
The article discusses a study which investigates the effect of xanthophyll carotenoid, astaxanthin (Ax), and all-trans retinoic acid (atRA) on gene transcription regulated by aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR). It was observed that AHR-dependent gene transcription was down-regulated by retinoic acid and up-regulated by carotenoid. It highlights that AHR is one of determinants for the concentration of intracellular retinoic acid by alteration of cytochrome P450 1AA (CYP1A) subfamily expressions.
