- Abstract
In Germany, the discourses around global learning and religious education were initially intertwined, but have more and more drifted apart in recent decades. At this backdrop, the article underlines the mutual interdependence of religion and education in global society. Drawing back on the influential concepts of Roland Robertson and Peter Beyer, theoretical perspectives on the ongoing globalization of religion are presented, with particular emphasis on their compatibility with current pedagogical frameworks. Subsequently, the relevance of religious education is exemplified by three current challenges of Global Learning (Covid-19 pandemic, global migration, digitalisation).
