- Abstract
The article discusses the use of in vivo confocal reflectance microscopy (CSLM) for the characterization of melanocytic nests and for the correlation with dermoscopy and histology. CSLM is a novel technique providing instantaneous visualization of skin structures at a quasi-histological resolution to a depth of 250 lm, producing pictures representing horizontal planes of the skin. CSLM allowed the in vivo characterization of the appearance of melanocytic nests in common and Spitz naevi and in malignant melanomas, showing that different types of clusters were more frequently represented in different kinds of lesions.
