- Abstract
Cancer in children and adolescents is a heterogeneous group of neoplasms. Within these, leukemia is the most frequent. Currently, monoclonal antibody immunotherapy and adoptive cell therapy based on genetic engineering of T cells represent a great opportunity for patients who do not respond to conventional therapies. Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cells and immunotherapy approved by American and European regulatory agencies have shown safety and efficiency in the recognition of CD19 antigen of acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients. Nowadays, this therapy has shown success on relapse/refractory B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients. This review describes the genetic engineering for Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cells generation, clinical applications and recent clinical assay effectiveness on pediatric patients.
