- Abstract
The article explores 18th-century U.S. epistolary culture and letter writing through a discussion of the collections "Letters From a Farmer in Pennsylvania" by legislator John Dickinson and "Letters From an American Farmer" by J. Hector St. John de Crèvecoeur. Emphasis is given to topics such as the relationship between slavery and taxation without consent and Dickinson's objections to the Stamp Act and Townshend Duties.
