- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented of the book "A Description of New Netherland," by Adriaen van der Donck. An overview of the book's depiction of the mid 17th century Dutch colony New Netherland as a cosmopolitan region for European settlers, including for Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian colonists, is provided. The book's portrayal of the relationship between colonizing New Netherland and Dutch cultural and national identity.
