- Abstract
Reinhard Kirmse was a significant scientist and university professor in Germany who made substantial contributions to the development of EPR spectroscopy in inorganic and coordination chemistry. He was born in Altenburg, Thuringia in 1947 and studied chemistry in Leipzig. After completing his doctorate and habilitation, he worked at the University of Leipzig, where he established new collaborations and projects for investigating paramagnetic complexes. He also closely collaborated with physicists to further develop the methodological foundations. Kirmse was known for his ability to explain complex matters in an understandable way and placed great importance on the education of students pursuing teaching degrees. He retired in 2012 and leaves behind a large number of colleagues, friends, and his family who mourn his loss.
