Blick nach Asien.
- Abstract
The article "A Look at Asia" presents various developments in chemistry and energy in Asia. The Chinese company Sinopec has discovered large shale oil reserves during test drilling in the Hubei province. In Japan, the Ministry of Economy is funding a concrete project aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and extracting CO2 from limestone. A Japanese consortium also plans to use hydrogen instead of coke in steel production to reduce CO2 emissions. Another Japanese consortium is working on developing a supply chain for ammonia production as a hydrogen carrier for energy generation. Finally, the Hungarian biochemist Katalin Karikó and the American immunologist Drew Weissman were awarded the Japan Prize for their research on the development of mRNA vaccines.
