Retrial queues with generally distributed retrial times.

- Abstract
In general, constraints on the residual retrial times are needed, which translate to constraints on the retrial time distribution when the retrial times are independent and identically distributed [[1]]. However, if the average retrial time is very small relative to the average service time, it is argued that the elapsed retrial times for the customers are approximately independent and distributed as the elapsed time of a renewal process where the renewal times are distributed as the retrial times. A tandem network of retrial queues with constant retrial times is studied, and the retrial process is approximated by matching the first two moments of the time between retrials, thereby neglecting any correlation between the inter-retrial times. The polling equivalence suggests that more intricate retrial queues with constant retrial times can be studied, drawing on the extensive literature on polling systems.
