- Abstract
The article looks at the journals of Wendell Elkins, a farmer and the son of Shaker apostate Hervey Elkins. Particular focus is given to the Elkins' relationship to the Shaker community in Enfield, New Hampshire. According to the author, the family maintained friendly and even loving relationships with Shakers despite Hervey Elkins' apostasy. Details on Shakers' visits to the Elkins' family farm, on Wendell Elkins' relationship with his father, and on the court case Davis v. Dyer are presented.
