- Abstract
The article focuses on attitudes toward the unemployment compensation program in the U.S. and how U.S. households cope with unemployment. It states that at the time of the survey, nearly 25% of households had at least one family member unemployed within two years prior to the survey. It mentions that nearly 50% of households that had suffered unemployment failed to utilize unemployment benefits due to the belief they were ineligible for the benefits. It commented on the use of unemployment compensation by employees to wait until their former company was hiring again and be rehired for their position, reducing the cost of recruitment and training for that company and providing the employee with enhanced continuity of work life.
