- Abstract
The article discusses about the purchase of Diamond Shamrock Chemicals Co. by Occidental Petroleum Corp. According to the article, the subsidiary of the Diamond Shamrock Corp. was acquired by Occidental Petroleum for a reported sum of $580 million, which is inclusive of some $110 milion in assumed debt. It is said that Diamond Shamrock Chemical Co. is composed of an industrial chemicals division, a soda products division, a process chemicals division and facilities for cogeneration. Due to the acquisition of Diamond Shamrock's industrial chemicals business, Occidental becomes the largest producer of potassium hydroxied in the United States, as well as the second largest producer of chlorine and caustic soda.
