- Abstract
Writing groups-communities of writers that periodically gather to discuss drafts- are rare in Latin America. However, they are common in the Anglo-Saxon context, where they are used with pedagogical purposes. This paper reviews fifty publications and describes how these instructional initiatives work. Results indicate that writing groups improve graduate students' and junior faculty's publication rates by accompanying the writing acquisition process. They also help enacting real academic and scientific writing practices and, thus, differ from other pedagogical proposals that favor fragmentary exercitation.
