- Abstract
The article discusses the challenge posed by the limited integration ability of donor and recipient retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) in a study of potential treatment for photoreceptor loss in mice. After three weeks of transplantation, however, the authors found that subretinal transplanted RPCs had integrated into the outer nuclear layer of recipient retinas with laser injury, some appearing to form synaptic connections with bipolar cells. The authors say this suggests an achievable therapeutic strategy for the loss of retinal photoreceptor cells.
