- Abstract
The article assesses the right of U.S. residents to be protected from gun violence. Topics discussed include the tendency of guns to escalate the lethality of violence in the country in light of its possible use in domestic homicide, suicide or accidental shooting, interpretation of the Second Amendment by the courts such as the Supreme Court ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller on the right to own a gun in homes for protection, and bases of the state duty to protect citizens.
