Hu strengthens position ahead of 17<sup>th</sup> party congress.
- Abstract
The article reports on the strengthened position of Chinese President Hu Jintao at the Communist Party of China's 17th party congress to be held in the autumn of 2007. This is induced by former president Jiang Zemin's ineligibility to run for the Central Committee position due to the failure of his son to become part of the party congress. Other officials who have also lost positions are You Xigui, Bodyguard Bureau director, and Huang Ju, former secretary to the vice premier.
