Ula system of Tibet, then and now.
- Abstract
The author discusses Tibet's Ula system, known to be a form of conscript labor service or corvee that people had to render at the pleasure of the government machinery. To the author, the system is a burden to average ordinary Tibetan considering his current economic situation. The poor Tibetan could not allegedly endure the demands asked by Tibetan officials during their visits, such as grains and firewood. Worst, the poor allegedly always get reprimanded everytime he confronts the authorities.
